MAMNA Virtual Seminar Muhammad Khan, Non-Chemical Betavoltaic Power Source for MEMS Sensors Non-Chemical Betavoltaic Power Source for MEMS Sensors Muhammad Khan Muhammad Khan is the lead MEMS fabrication engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, and an electrical engineering PhD candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park. His background is in the design and fabrication of MEMS devices and solid-state electronics. In this seminar, Muhammad will talk about non-chemical betavoltaic power sources for MEMS sensors. MEMS sensors require tiny power sources with long lifetimes and functionality at extreme environments (high/low temperatures) as they are often placed in remote locations where frequent change of batteries can be burdensome and dangerous. Betavoltaic power sources can be a great choice for MEMS sensors as they have higher energy density (103 times larger), longer lifetime (10-100 years), and wider operational temperature range (-60 to 150°C) than current state of the art chemical batteries.
