Professor Donald B. Barker has been elected to the grade of Fellow in ASME International, a worldwide engineering society focused on technical, educational and research issues in mechanical engineering.

In a letter from ASME International's President, Susan H. Skemp, describing this honor, she writes:

"ASME International's Constitution describes this esteemed recognition as; ' a Fellow, a membership grade of distinction...' I can assure you that the selection criteria are rigorous. Nominations must document the individual's significant engineering achievements, as well as contributions to the Society and the profession, authoring or contributing to technical publicatins or reports, and developing patents and inventions. Dr. Barker's recognition truly places him in a distinguished and a very small segment of ASME's membership."

Founded in 1880 as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, today ASME International is a nonprofit educational and technical organization serving a worldwide membership of 125,000. Their mission is to promote and enhance the technical competency and professional well-being of their members, and through quality programs and activities in mechanical engineering, better enable its practitioners to contribute to the well-being of humankind.

The Department offers Dr. Barker their heartiest congratulations.
