Dr. Katepalli R. Sreenivasan

 

Professor of Mechanical Engineering Katepalli R. Sreenivasan was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences on May 1st for his outstanding and longtime research contributions to the fields of fluid turbulence, complex fluids, combustion, cryogenic helium, and nonlinear dynamics. In addition to being a part of the Mechanical Engineering faculty in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, Sreenivasan?s additional accolades include Professor and Director of the Institute for Physical Science & Technology, Distinguished University Professor, Glenn L. Martin Professor of Engineering, and Professor of Physics.

Sreenvivasan?s election was held during the business session of the 144th annual meeting of the Academy. Those elected this May bring the total number of active members to 2,025.

The National Academy of Sciences is a private organization of scientists and engineers dedicated to the furtherance of science and its use for the general welfare. It was established in 1863 by a congressional act of incorporation signed by Abraham Lincoln that calls on the Academy to act as an official adviser to the federal government, upon request, in any matter of science or technology.
