Students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a coat drive within the Clark School that collected more than 100 coats in one week. The students dropped off the coats to the WPGC (95.5 FM) Winter Coat Drive at Beltway Plaza Mall last month, earning a mention on the radio for their feat.

Seniors Bryan Henderson (regional zone coordinator and president emeritus for the National Society of Black Engineers) and Charlie Choe (current president of Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society) along with Fitzgerald Walker (mechanical engineering graduate studies coordinator) led the effort to collect coats from faculty, staff and students within the Clark School.

"Being an engineering student, with the worries of classes, student clubs and more, it's easy to forget about the community that exists outside these walls," Henderson said. "This was a great opportunity to show that we're not just smart, but we're also community-conscious."

Henderson and Choe were interviewed on the radio about their efforts.

Henderson has posted a YouTube video with photos from the coat drive.
