Junior Daniel Ettehadieh and graduate student J. Daniel Spencer each received a $1,000 scholarship award presented by the National Capital Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).  The students? nominations were endorsed by the university?s ASHRAE student chapter president Justin DiPalo and the Department of Mechanical Engineering?s Dr. Michael Ohadi, who is also the student chapter?s faculty advisor.

Winning this scholarship has encouraged Ettehadieh, who is taking an independent study course in heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning engineering, to consider a career in this field. ?This scholarship inspires me to learn more about ASHRAE related fields and continue my studies in heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning engineering,? Ettehadieh said.

For first year Master?s student Spencer, this scholarship will not only help him pursue his graduate degree and participate in experimental research with the university?s Center for Environment Energy Engineering (CEEE), but also provided him with an opportunity to meet professional engineers at the March 14 awards ceremony which honored both students.

Students are considered for the scholarship based not only on their grades and interest in heating, refrigeratin and air conditioning engineering fields but for their contributions to the University?s ASHRAE chapter and to the campus community as well.
