The Group for Research in Decision Analysis (GERAD) has named Professor Steven Gabriel an Associated Member. Gabriel is a Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Scientific Computation Program, and he is an affiliate with the Institute for Systems Research (ISR).  He was involved with GERAD during his recent sabbatical as Professeur Invité Trottier at the Institut de L'Énergie Trottier in Montréal, Canada  (2014-2015).

Gabriel has extensive experience in both mathematical modeling as well as algorithm design for optimization and equilibrium problems in a variety of engineering and economic areas such as energy, the environment, transportation and telecommunications. In addition to his academic background, he has over 25 years of industry experience in mathematical modeling and analysis.

With GERAD, he will concentrate on developing models and algorithms to solve optimization and equilibrium problems in energy and other networked industries.

Gabriel has over 60 publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings and technical reports. He has served as an expert panelist for the Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Information Administration and National Technology Laboratory, providing guidance on building an international natural gas model as well as evaluation of their fossil energy programs.

GERAD is a multi-university research center founded in 1979. It involves some seventy experts from a mix of disciplines: quantitative methods for management, operations researchers, computer scientists, mathematicians and mathematical engineers, from HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, McGill University and Université du Québec à Montréal.
