Mechanical engineering undergraduates Jaime Berez and Haroula Tzamaras were recognized on April 19, 2017 at the Clark School Awards Ceremony for their successes here at the University of Maryland. Berez and Tzamaras both won Clark School Awards for the 2016-2017 year.

BerezBerez was awarded the Kim Borsavage and Pamela J. Stone Award for Outstanding Service. This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and service to the Clark School. Berez is a fourth year mechanical engineering student who serves as the team leader of the Terps Racing Baja SAE Team. Through Terps Racing, he has developed and taught a course connected to the design/build competition. In addition, he has been an undergraduate teaching fellow for Introduction to Engineering Design and has participated in the Mechanical Engineering Student Leadership Board. After graduating in spring 2018, he wants to either pursue graduate school or a position in the aerospace industry.

Tzamaras Tzamaras was awarded the A. James Clark School of Engineering Leadership Award. This award is presented to a student who demonstrated outstanding leadership to the Clark School in activities that impact all engineering majors. Tzamaras is a mechanical engineering junior who is a member of the University Honors Program and QUEST Honors Program, and she was very involved with the Women in Engineering program. During her time at Maryland, she served as president of the Flexus program, chair of the Women in Engineering Student Advisory Board and co-founder of Women in Engineering Leadership Development (WIELD), a new engineering organization for women in leadership. She is a student representative on the Mechanical Engineering faculty undergraduate committee and was a secretary of Pi Tau Sigma. After graduation in 2018, she plans to pursue a masters of engineering in the field of design and work in industry for an international company.
