On April 26, 2017, the University of Maryland Solar Decathlon team gathered in front of sponsors and UMD faculty, staff, and students to reveal their solar-powered house design. Team leads reviewed the architecture, power, living systems, water, automation, and heating/air conditioning components of the house.

J.T. Stanley (B.S. '17, individual studies), UMD Solar Decathlon's sponsorship officer, explained that the objective of the design review was to showcase for the community and supporters the team's progress and hard work. The design review also served as an opportunity to recruit new members and intrigue prospective sponsors.

Team leads presented with enthusiasm and great knowledge of the features of the house they helped design. "Those that attended the event can testify to the infectious passion that my fellow team members filled the room with," Stanley said.

The team's modular house is named reACT, which stands for resilient Adaptive Climate Technology. All components of the house are designed to maximize operating efficiency and comfort and minimize waste. Stanley stressed during the review that there is no shortage of needs on as the team brings their designs to life and the end of the competition draws closer.
