Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Affiliate Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Omar Ramahi was awarded the Purple Cam Shaft Award by the Maryland Tau Mu Chapter of Pi Tau Sigma.

Each year, the members of Pi Tau Sigma vote for one professor as the recipient of the award. The professor that receives this award is one whose class is difficult and challenging, yet fair. Because of Ramahi?s demand for superior work, his students felt that they left the class better prepared for their careers as engineers. The award signifies the respect his students have for him as a professor. ?Your dedication to teaching has left a mark on your students, and we ask you to continue your excellent work,? states the official notice of award from Pi Tau Sigma.

Professor Ramahi?s name will be engraved on a plaque hung outside the Mechanical Engineering Main Office, and Ramahi will be able to keep the Cam Shaft Plaque until the next recipient is named. The award was presented in October.

Ramahi?s research interests include Electromagnetic compatibility and interference; high-speed electronic packaging; biomedical applications of electromagnetics; wave-material interaction; optimization; computational electromagnetics; and electromagnetic characterization of advanced materials. He teaches ENME 808V: Advanced Packaging for Signal Integrity and Electromagnetic Interference Control and ENME 350: Measurements and Instrumentations I.
