The IEEE Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology Society (IEEE CPMT) has announced the election of Dr. Avram Bar-Cohen to its Board of Governors. Dr. Bar-Cohen, Distinguished University Professor and former Department Chair (2001-2010) of the University of Maryland’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, was elected as one of 6 new Members-at-Large for a 3-year term that began on January 1, 2012.

Bar-Cohen has been an active member of the IEEE CPMT Society for the past 25 years, having served most recently as Editor-in-Chief of CPMT Transactions from 2005-2011. Earlier he had served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Components and Packaging Technologies from 1995-2005 and has been an IEEE CPMT Society Distinguished Lecturer since 1999. In 2002, he was awarded the IEEE CPMT Society Outstanding Sustained Technical Contributions Award for “contributions to thermal design, modeling, and analysis and for original research on ebullient and liquid-phase cooling."

Dr. Bar-Cohen was named a Fellow of the IEEE in 1993 and is the co-author of Design and Analysis of Heat Sinks (Wiley, 1995) and Thermal Analysis and Control of Electronic Equipment  (McGraw Hill, 1983).
