Distinguished University Professor and Minta Martin Professor Ashwani Gupta has received three prestigious new distinctions, further extending international recognition of his contributions to engineering.
In February, Gupta was selected for the Achievers Honours, a gala award bestowed by the United Kingdom’s (UK) National Indian Students and Alumni Union in partnership with the UK government, Universities UK International, and the University of East London. Gupta traveled to London for a special reception at the House of Lords on Feb. 26, during which the award was officially unveiled.
Meanwhile, the American Society for Engineering Education’s (ASEE) Aerospace Division and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) have awarded Gupta the John Leland Atwood Award for his contributions to the literature on combustion, energy and propulsion. The award was conferred during the AIAA SciTech Forum in Orlando in January.
At the same event, Gupta and co-authors received a Best Paper award for their new study, “Computational Design of Near-Critical Liquefaction Reactor towards Process Intensification.”
A University of Maryland (UMD) faculty member since 1983, Professor Gupta has earned numerous accolades over a career spanning more than four decades. He is a prolific author who has published three books and edited 18 others, in addition to more than 850 technical papers, and 22 book chapters. In 2022, a Stanford University report listed him among the top 2% of scientists in the world in terms of citations across academic fields. He is an honorary fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and a fellow of several other professional associations and societies.
In 2023, he became a fellow of the United Kingdom’s Royal Academy of Engineering, with Princess Anne bestowing the recognition during a formal induction ceremony in London.
