Mechanical engineering professor, Shapour Azarm, has been selected to serve as a Review Editor of the Springer-Verlag journal publication: Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (SMO).

SMO is the official journal of the International Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization. It is published on a monthly basis, with a range of topics on dealing with designing optimal systems and multidisciplinary/multi-subsystem optimization models and techniques. The international journal?s aim is to ?provide a vehicle for disseminating information about all aspects of structural and multidisciplinary optimization through a single medium.?

Dr. Azarm?s research specializes in deterministic and stochastic (robust) design (single- and multi-objective; classical and evolutionary; single and multi-disciplinary) optimization; multi-attribute design decision making under uncertainty; multi-disciplinary multi-objective sensitivity analysis; reduced-order modeling (approximation); and the design of experiments and metamodeling. He also specializes in the integration of engineering design and marketing in retail dominated markets for single product, product line and product bundling design. Azarm received his bachelor?s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tehran and his mechanical engineering master?s and Ph.D. from George Washington University and the University of Michigan, respectively.

In addition to this journal publication, Dr. Azarm also serves several other journals. He is currently an Associate Editor for Transactions of the ASME, Journal of Mechanical Design (2004-present) and for Mechanics Based Design of Structures and Machines, (January 1998-present). He is also an Editorial Board Member for the International Journal of Reliability and Safety (2005-present). In addition, Dr. Azarm is an ASME Fellow and has won numerous awards, most recently being ASME Service Awards (1996, 1999, 2007) and the ASME Design Automation Award in 2007 for ?his sustained and meritorious contributions to research in Design Automation, specifically in computational design optimization and engineering design decision making."
