Department of Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Patrick McClusky has been promoted to the rank full professor by University of Maryland President Wallace Loh.

McClusky received his B.S. degree from Lafayette College in 1984 and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Lehigh University in 1986 and 1991. From 1994 to 1997, McCluskey was appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist in the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE) and he became an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland in August of 1997. He has received numerous awards, including Literati Society Award for Best Paper in Microelectronics International and the U. S. Navy Best Manufacturing Practice Award.

McCluskey's research interests include computer aided risk assessment of microelectronics, electronic packaging design for high temperature and high power applications and the insertion of commercial components into high reliability applications. His research findings have had a significant impact on the engineering of power electronics and innovative materials for extreme temperature electronics.

McCluskey was the first faculty member from the Department of Mechanical Engineering to offer an I-series course which was entitled "Building Products that Last: Failure is NOT an Option."
